Free digital skills training for youth in Kakuma interested in 3D Modelling and creative technology: Cohort VII is open
The Creative Gateway Cohort VII is officially open, bringing another opportunity for free digital skills training for youth in Kakuma interested in 3D modelling and creative technology.
And honestly, reaching a seventh cohort feels worth pausing for.
When we first introduced 3D modelling training in Kakuma, there was still a lot of curiosity around what it even was. For many young people, 3D modelling sounded distant, highly technical, or like something only accessible in large cities or international studios.
Today, that conversation looks very different.
Interest in digital skills training and 3D modelling continues growing with every cohort. More young people are actively searching for opportunities to learn practical digital skills connected to online work, creative industries, and the future of digital livelihoods. Watching that interest grow consistently over time has been one of the most exciting parts of this journey.
One of the most encouraging things about reaching Cohort VII is seeing how much momentum the program has built over the years. Every cohort brings new learners, new creative experiments, new ideas, and stronger work. What once felt unfamiliar is slowly becoming part of a growing creative and digital learning culture emerging within Kakuma.
Who Can Apply for The Creative Gateway’s Free 3D Modelling Training in Kakuma?
Refugees and Host Community Youth Living in Kakuma and Turkana West
The program is open to both registered refugees and Kenyan youth living within Kakuma refugee camp and Turkana West Ward. One of the things that has always mattered to us is creating shared learning spaces where young people from different backgrounds can learn, collaborate, and grow together through digital skills training and creativity.
Applicants must present either:
A UNHCR Manifest or Alien ID
A Kenyan National ID
Young People Interested in Digital Skills and 3D Modelling
We are looking for young people who are genuinely curious about digital creativity, 3D modelling, animation, design, and creative technology.
You do not need to already know how to use advanced 3D software.
What matters most is interest, commitment, and willingness to learn. Some of the strongest students from previous cohorts started with zero experience in 3D modelling but improved quickly through practice, mentorship, and consistency.
As free digital skills training for youth in Kakuma continues gaining interest, we are excited to keep opening opportunities for more learners to explore creative digital careers.
Applicants With Basic Computer Literacy
Because the training is highly practical and software-based, applicants should already have basic computer knowledge or formal computer training.
This does not mean you need advanced technical skills.
It simply means you should feel comfortable using a computer, typing, navigating software, and learning digital tools in a classroom environment. Having this foundation helps students adapt faster to the technical side of 3D modelling training.
Applicants With KCSE Education or Equivalent
Participants should have completed KCSE or an equivalent level of education.
This helps ensure learners are prepared for the pace of the training, group collaboration, creative assignments, and project-based learning involved throughout the program.
The Creative Gateway is designed to challenge participants creatively and technically, so a strong learning foundation is important.
Young People Ready to Commit Fully to the 3-Month Program
The training runs for three months and requires consistency, discipline, and active participation.
3D modelling is not something learners master overnight. Projects can take time, revisions are part of the learning process, and growth often comes through continuous practice.
We are looking for participants who are ready to commit their time, energy, and attention to the full learning experience from start to finish.
Applicants Interested in Online Freelancing and Digital Livelihoods
One of the long-term goals of The Creative Gateway is to expose youth to opportunities connected to the digital economy and online work.
That is why we are especially interested in applicants who are curious about freelancing, remote creative work, and using digital skills to build future livelihood opportunities.
The global demand for digital creative work continues growing, and skills like 3D modelling are becoming increasingly valuable across industries such as architecture, advertising, animation, gaming, product visualization, and digital media.
Young People Willing to Mentor Others After Training
We strongly believe digital skills grow faster when knowledge is shared.
Many former students continue supporting peers, sharing what they have learned, and encouraging others to explore digital creativity and technology.
That community spirit has played a big role in helping The Creative Gateway grow across seven cohorts, and we hope to continue building that culture through Cohort VII.
What Should Applications Include?
Applications for The Creative Gateway Cohort VII should include the following documents:
An updated CV
Copies of academic certificates
Proof of identity:
UNHCR Manifest or Alien ID for registered refugees
Kenyan National ID for host community applicants
These documents help us verify eligibility and better understand each applicant’s educational background, experience, and interest in digital skills training and 3D modelling.
